'The Three Suns'

A rare celestial event that appears to show three suns in the sky has been filmed in the skies above Mongolia. The phenomenon, scientific name parhelion, was visible in areas across Mongolia on Sunday and shows the sun flanked by two reflections on either side. A parhelion occurs when light from a sun at low altitude passes through ice crystal fragments in the earth’s atmosphere, causing light to be refracted. This creates what seems to be a Halo around the sun with two "sun-like" balls of light on either side. A parhelion can also be known as a Sun Dog because they follow the sun like a dog follows its owner.  For a parhelion to occur there has to be very specific conditions where the temperature is lower than -30°C and the air is filled with vapour and air crystals.

New Ulaanbaatar Commuter Railway

In an attempt to dramatically reduce the traffic and pollution through the capital, Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian government have installed a railway train for public use; this will travel from Tolgoit, in the west of the city to the east, to Amgalan. Not only will this benefit the environment, but the time taken for citizens to travel by rail compared to by road can be reduced by over 90%. The ‘Myetrovagonmash’ train, ( Russian: Метровагонмаш ) transported from Mytishchi, Russia, claims a total of 136 seats and holds over 350 passengers; not only this, but it can reach to speeds of 100km/ hour and is due to be ‘open for service’ on the 6 th June, 2014. The estimated journey time along the whole rail is only 20 minutes, and plans to run 3 times per day, hoping will be expanded next year due to an extensional 3.7km track being built for mid 2015. After an organized investment of 300 million MNT (approx. 165,000 USD) from the Ulaanbaatar City, 6 newly built railway st...

The Mongol Empire "Kublai Khan"

Kublai was the second son of Tolui and Sorghaghtani Beki, and a grandson of Genghis Khan. Kublai's real power was limited to China and Mongolia. In 1271, Kublai established the Yuan Dynasty, which ruled over present-day Mongolia, China, Korea, and some adjacent areas, and assumed the role of Emperor of China. By 1279, the Yuan forces had overcome the last resistance of the Southern Song Dynasty, and Kublai became the first non-Chinese Emperor to conquer all of China. He was also the only Mongol khan after 1260 to win new conquests. The summer garden of Kublai Khan at Xanadu is the subject of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's 1797 poem Kubla Khan. This poem and Marco Polo's earlier book brought Kublai and his achievements to the attention of a wider audience, and today Kublai is a well-known historical figure.

Dakar Rally 2014 "Kamaz Master" Team

We are big fans of the 'Kamaz Master' Rally Team and are looking forward to enjoying the  2014 Dakar Rally in January.  The Team have some amazing achievements in endurance rallying so we are expecting a great performance.  Rules and regulations have forced the Kamaz team to change from their 17.2 litre Russian 'YMZ' engines to 16.5 litre German 'Leibherr' engines. There was speculation that the American company 'Cummins' could provide the new engines, however recent agreements for Kamaz’s commercial machines state that 'Leibherr' has the the opportunity to supply for the Kamaz construction vehicles as well as the Kamaz Master Team.  Commercial machines manufactured by Leibherr include heavy duty cranes and lorries.   Also new Dakar Rally regulations for the truck section relate to 'SMOKE CONTROL' and if emissions are too heavy the team will be penalised as follows:  1 st infringement:   €500 2 nd inf...
